What Are Different Types Of WLAN Authentication — Basics Of Networking

When a wireless network is deployed, authentication is the first thing that needs to be done before connecting it to devices. So, It is important to know the different aspects of the authentication methods. However, authentication should not be mistaken with the authorization.

Authentication is a process by which the identity of a user is verified by using some sort of credentials. On the other hand, authorization is more like authorizing a person to use the resources. Thus, in the most of the cases, authentication precedes authorization.
As far as authentication is concerned,  there are mainly three types of WLAN authentication methods that are used today:

  • Open authentication
  • shared authentication
  • EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) authentication

Open Authentication:

When a wireless network is deployed, a user knows about the particular network using its Service-Set Identifier (SSID). SSID, in simple terms, can be thought of as a wireless network identifier which is continuously broadcasted by the wireless network.

If you are really interested in knowing the different SSIDs your machine can see, then type the command below:

“netsh wlan show networks

And it would look something like this:

Here, you can see a list of SSIDs as well as authentication types of those SSIDs. So, in the open authentication, if the device knows the SSID, it can directly join the network.

Shared Authentication:

The shared authentication method is more secure than the open authentication. However, the shared authentication is basically employed on the individual and small business levels. A shared key, also known as Pre-Shared Key (PSK), is shared between the two parties. When the device tries to connect to that network, it puts in the key and if that matches, then the device is allowed onto the network.

Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP):

EAP is the last types of WLAN authentication method, but the most secure authentication process of all. That’s why EAP is also deployed at the enterprise level along with an authentication server. A user logs into the wireless network using a variety of credential options.

How To Test Your Internet Speed With Fast.com — Simplest Internet Speed Test By Netflix

Fast.com is a simple internet connection speed test tool launched by Netflix. It tells you the real-time download speeds and gives you a link to compare your results with the famous Ookla’s Speedtest.net. Netflix says that it measures your current download speed by performing a series of downloads from Netflix servers.

Are you tired of your ISP’s deception and the slow internet connection speed? Well, you have an option of checking your connection speed and filing a complaint. To check the internet connection speeds, numerous broadband tests are available and they have their own specialties.

While many of you might be using Ookla’s Speedtest from time to time, Netflix is here with the simplest internet connection speed test ever called fast.com. They also give the option to compare your results with Ookla internet connection speed test.

As you visit the newly released service, you see a minimal interface that just measures your internet service provider’s download speed. After a few seconds of the test, the results are right in front of you in huge digits.

Unlike Ookla’s test, fast.com shows no ads and is designed by Netflix to check your download speeds if you are facing any streaming issues with your ISP.

How to take Fast.com internet connection speed test?

As I earlier said, you just need to visit Fast.com and your test automatically starts. If you want to check the internet connection speed once more, you need to hit the reload button and the test starts again.

Fast.com measures your current download speed by performing a series of downloads from Netflix servers. “This consumer speed test is different than our Netflix ISP Speed Index. Fast.com measures your personal Internet connection at any given time,” the Netflix website writes.

Earlier in May, Netflix also introduced a tool to help the users control how much data they use.

Fast.com vs Ookla Speedtest.net results:

I decided to take both Fast.com and Ookla Speedtest and there was a surprising difference between those. While Speedtest.net recorded a download speed of 40-60 Mbps, Fast.com’s result  was stuck around 10 Mbps.

Go ahead, take the both internet connection speed tests,

Google’s Android Instant Apps — Use Them In Your Browser Without Installing

Android Instant Apps are being called the next big thing that can revolutionize mobile experience. To be launched by the end of this year, one will be able to launch the Instant Apps with just a click on a URL, use the specific portion of that app, and forget about it. This functionality will save space and time, making our app experience as seamless as browsing a web page.

At its I/O developer conference, Google announced many new products and services. The company even surprised everybody by launching a website to submit suggestions for the name of next version of Android i.e. Android N.

From the same platform, Google showed off a new approach to native Android apps that allows you to use apps without installing them on your Android device. This allows developers to take advantage of the modules of applications without actually using them.

What are Android Instant Apps?
Android Instant Apps are being developed to blur the lines between a mobile app and a web app. This feature will be rolled out slowly to the users, but Google wants you to rethink the concept of mobile apps.

While downloading an application takes some time and storage space, Instant Articles run simply by clicking on a URL.

Google says that the idea behind Instant Apps is to make the app experience as simple as surfing a website. In future, you’ll visit an app via a web page, perform the desired action, and never think about it again.

To enable this feature, developers need to break their apps into smaller modules that can start within few seconds. Instead of rewriting the app from scratch, they can use the existing source code and implement the Instant App support within a day, according to Google.

In its I/O demo, the Google presenter showed different apps like Buzzfeed and B&H with Instant App ability and completed the tasks in seconds without installing any app.

In the demo, Google used a device running Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s expected that Google will allow the Instant Apps to run on any device running Android Jellybean or newer.

The tech giant is expected to roll out the Instant Apps by the end of 2016.

Download SHAREit For Windows 10

There are plenty of ways out to share a file over the internet but depending on the speed of your Internet connection a 100 MB file might take less than a minute to more than an hour to transfer.

Sure, there are apps to transfer files between PC to PC over Wi-Fi but it’s hard to come across an app that supports not just PC and Mac but all major mobile operating systems including iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

SHAREit for Windows

SHAREit is a very popular app among smartphone users. In fact, it’s one of the top downloaded apps from Google Store. As said before, SHAREit is available for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and Windows Phone, meaning one can share files between any of these operating systems with a few clicks or taps.

SHAREit features

To begin with, one can send photos, videos, music, documents and any other file type using SHAREit. And probably the best feature of this free app is that it doesn’t require an internet connection. And if you’re wondering about the speed, you can send GBs of files in a few minutes. More importantly, there is no restriction neither on file size nor number of files.

For those of you wondering, according to the official website of SHAREit, it uses a Wi-Fi technology called SoftAP that creates a personal network and allows other devices to send and receive files. Because of this technology, you can share files faster than sending over the Internet.

With default settings, the Secure mode feature is turned off. However, it’s a wise idea to turn on the Secure mode  feature. When the feature is turned on, you need to create a new password and enter on the device that you want to connect to your device. We advise you turn on this Secure mode feature under Settings as this stops other devices on the same network from connecting to your PC.

In Windows 10/8/7, the files received from other devices are saved in Users\YourUserName\ Downloads\SHAREit folder. We advise you change this default location to a drive other than the system drive, especially if you plan to receive large files to avoid filling up your system drive. You can change the default location under Settings.

Click the down arrow icon in the top-right to access settings, destination folder, and trusted devices. If you add a device to trusted device list, SHAREit will automatically accept files from these devices without prompting you to accept or reject option. We advise you add only your personal devices to trusted list as malicious items can be sent by exploiting this feature.

Lastly, there is a feature called WebShare to share files without actually installing SHAREit app on all devices. In order to share files between two devices, you just need to have installed SHAREit on one device. You need connect to a personal network created by SHAREit and then open the IP address provided by SHAREit app on the device with which you want to share files.

Download SHAREit for Windows 10/8/7

And the good thing is that the newest version of SHAREit is fully compatible with Windows 10. So if you’re on Windows 10 and want to quickly share files between your Windows 10 PC and Mac/iPhone/Android/Windows Phone, give SHAREit app a try.

Visit the following official page to download the latest version of SHAREit.

The Google Phone App Now Works with Most Newer Android Devices

Both apps would later return, but compatibility with only Google’s stock Android devices meant the vast majority of devices were left out in the cold. Still we remained hopeful and after all this time, it appears Google has loosened up and quietly made the Phone app compatible with most newer Android smartphones.

According to the Google Play Store, the app can be installed on everything from our Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10, LG G4, Huawei Mate 8 and…. not much else. If you have a newer Android device, try seeing if it’s available.

Here’s why you’d want to install it:

  • Caller ID – Know who’s calling before you pick up, with business names now visible on the call screen along with their number.
  • Call Blocking – Get the calls you want, and not the ones you don’t. You can now block numbers to prevent unwanted calls.
  • Visual Voicemail – Check your messages without having to call voicemail – view, playback and delete them right from the Phone app. Currently available for Project Fi, T-Mobile USA, and Orange France customers.
  • Nearby Places – No more switching apps or cumbersome copy and paste. Just find and call places right from the Phone search bar.

So, if you absolutely hate using whatever dialer app came out of the box on your smartphone, like most things on Android… you can change that. Whether you’re shooting for a Royal Flush of all-Google apps, or just prefer the functionality of the Google dialer, Phone by Google can be downloaded via the link down below.

Future Of Wireless "WIFI" — 802.11ah Wi-Fi Penetrates Walls Easily Using Less Power

IEEE 802.11ah is supposed to solve the problem of signal strength across concrete walls and windows. It solves this problem by operating at a lower frequency than the existing ones. Thus, the devices also need to consume less power in transmitting and receiving signals.

We always complain regarding the slow speed of our internet connection and look for better speed even behind the walls. But, the Wi-Fi alliance thinks that they have come up with a solution to that in the form of 802.11ah.

802.11 ah is another IEEE standard wireless networking protocol which operates in the sub-one GHz (900MHz) band. The main intention of this newer wireless networking protocol is to provide support to Internet of Everything  (IoE) and also provide an extended range of Wi-Fi.

How 802.11 ah solves wall and other obstruction problem?

Today’s Wi-Fi standards like 802.11 a/ b/ g/ etc operate at high frequencies like 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz. Since their frequencies are so high, it becomes harder for them to maintain the signal strength as they pass through the walls.

Currently, 900MHz is an unlicensed spectrum. At a frequency like 900MHz, which is much lower to the above-mentioned frequencies, things like concrete walls, wooden windows, doors etc. would not pose a problem to the wifi access.

According to WiFi Alliance, 802.11ah is supposed to cover double the range of the current standards that is because the signal quality does not downgrade as the signal propagates. Also, devices would not have to burn out their battery in sending and receiving signals.

How To Remove Virus From USB Or Any Drive On Windows 10 Using CMD

Most of the viruses modify the attributes of a file or a folder such that they become very hard to access. Some of the attributes that are changed in a file or a folder are the read, write or the execute permission on that file. Using ‘attrib’, one of the cmd commands, we can try our hands to change the attributes of a file and reset the file’s internal structure in order to recover a file.

How is a virus different from any other file on Windows? A virus can be present in your system as a file format which has the following properties:

  1. A virus can be a file hidden from a user
  2. A virus can be present in the form of an ‘autorun’ or ‘Autoexec’ file
  3. A virus can be an exec file
  4. A virus can be a file with different attribute permissions

Some of the well-known examples of the above kinds of the viruses are:

  1. Autorun.inf
  2. Ravmon.exe
  3. New Folder.exe
  4. svchost.exe
  5. Heap41a

Remove Virus Using CMD from USB/ any Drive on Windows 10:

In order to remove a virus using cmd, we will use a famous cmd command called ‘attrib‘ command.

It can be easily guessed from its name that the ‘attrib’ command represents different attributes of a file, folder or a directory. This command is mainly responsible for displaying, setting and removing the different attributes like read-only, archive, system, and hidden attributes of a file or folder.

Using this command, we will try to change the attributes assigned to a file and thus recover our file.

Here are the basic attributes of the ‘attrib’ command which we will use later:

  • R – R represents the “Read-only” attribute of a file or folder. Read-only means the file cannot be written or executed.
  • H – H stands for the “Hidden” attribute.
  • A – Similarily,  A stands for “Archiving” which prepares a file for archiving and,
  • S – S attribute changes the selected files or folders into a system file from a user file by assigning the “System” attribute to that particular file.

“attrib” Syntax:

ATTRIB [+ attribute | – attribute] [pathname] [/S [/D]]

In the above command, let’s see what the different parameters and switches are:

‘+ / –’ : To enact or to cancel the specified attribute.
‘attribute’ : As explained above
‘/S‘ : Searching throughout the entire path including subfolders
‘/D’ :  Include any process folder
‘pathname’ : Path where the target file or folder is located.

Here is the proper syntax for attrib command:

ATTRIB [+R | -R] [+A | -A ] [+S | -S] [+H | -H] [+I | -I] [drive:][path][filename] [/S [/D] [/L]]

Let’s get started:

I am going to transfer an ‘autorun.inf‘ virus from my USB drive to my D: drive and delete that virus from my D: drive.

  • Run command prompt as an administrator

  • Since the autorun.inf virus is in my D: drive, I am going to change the drive to D: drive. It can be done by typing D: and press enter.

  • type attrib and press enter. This command will list out all the files inside the current drive and you can clearly see the autorun.info virus listed below.

  • To remove Virus using CMD, type into your command prompt attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press Enter. This will remove the Read Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files.
    • -r is for removing the read-only files
    • -a is for removing the archive file
    • -s is for removing the system file
    • -h is for removing the hidden file
    • *.* for all the files with all different types of file extensions\\

  • Note that this command will only remove the different attributes from different files. However, the files will still be there. Now time has come to delete the virus. So, to delete the virus, type del autorun.inf and enter

  • Once you have pressed enter, that file should get deleted from the current drive. In case, you want to delete that file from a USB stick, then you can change your current drive to USB drive current drive in step 2 and follow the commands.
  • You can again type ‘attrib’ command to see if the deleted file exists or not. As seen above, it does not exist anymore in the D drive.
  • To remove other viruses with extensions such as ‘.ink’, ‘.exe’, just type Del *.ink or Del *.exe respectively to delete those suspicious files.
I hope this would have been informative for you. If you know some other tricks, let us know in the comments below.

අම්මා ගහයි මෙන්න දෙකට නමලා සාක්කුවට flexible phone

මෙන්න තවත් නිවුස් එකක්. Sci-fi tech arrives with this flexible phone with 3D holographic screen. මෙන්න මේ ගැන තවත් විස්තර සහ වීඩියෝව.

he future of gadgets is filled with flexible and holographic technology. At least that's what sci-fi movies and the super-smart geeks in science labs developing the future keep telling us.

Researchers at Queen's University's Human Media Lab have created what they call the world's first flexible holographic smartphone. The Android-based smartphone prototype is called the HoloFlex.

When the HoloFlex is bent, the full HD (1,920 x 1,080) touchscreen is capable of displaying a glasses-free 3D image. A bend sensor inside lets users manipulate objects on the z-axis, adding three-dimensional depth input.

"HoloFlex offers a completely new way of interacting with your smartphone," writes Dr. Vertegaal, one of the researchers involved with the project. "It allows for glasses-free interactions with 3D video and images in a way that does not encumber the user."

There are several useful use cases for bendable holographic technology. In the video above, a user is able to manipulate a handle and re-orient it on a 3D model of a teapot. Other uses include bending the screen to control Angry Birds and using the phone's depth camera to initiate a holographic video conference.

"When bending the display users literally pop out of the screen and can even look around each other, with their faces rendered correctly from any angle to any onlooker," says Dr. Vertegaal.

The phone has respectable specs, including a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 2GB of RAM.

The HoloFlex is still a prototype, but even so, it's already showing promise. Maybe a Star Wars-like reality filled with paper-thin, hologram-projecting devices is what the future of smartphones will look like after all.

Samsung Family Hub Smart Fridge Featuring 21.5-Inch Touchscreen & Cameras Now On Sale

Gone are the days when a refrigerator was just used to keep your groceries fresh, and your milk and soda at an optimum drinking temperature. There was a time when the introduction of water and ice vending systems on the front of kitchen appliances was deemed “revolutionary”. Those days are also gone with companies like Samsung looking to reinvent and modernize every part of the home step-by-step. But that modernization comes with a cost. Rather than parting with an average of $1000 for a standard fridge freezer, Samsung is asking consumers to hand over upwards of $5600 for this new appliance. You do get some amazing functionality for that outlay though.

In addition to storing groceries and frozen goods, Samsung’s latest home gadget allows owners to easily order groceries through MasterCard’s new Groceries app installed on the refrigerator. Yes, that’s right, kitchen appliances now come with apps installed. A quick interaction with the Groceries app through the 21.5-inch touchscreen allows owners to order whatever they please with minimal fuss.

The Family Hub smart refrigerator can also function as a menu planner, a media streaming device that can stream music via services like Pandora and TuneIn, as well as mirroring media and cable channels from one of Samsung’s Smart TVs. It can even function as a calendar, provide timely weather updates if you require, and even function as the good old notepad for your entire family.

If all that wasn’t enough bang for your buck, then how about three internal cameras that continuously monitor and take snaps of the groceries inside of the product and feed them back to a connected smartphone? Oh, and it also functions as a refrigerator. Just in case you were wondering.

Family Hub is available in two sizes, and two different colors. A Standard Depth Family Hub in Stainless Steel will set you back $5,599.99, whereas those opting for a Black Stainless Steel variant can expect to pay $5,799.99. Those looking for more space can opt for the Counter Depth range which comes in at $5,799.99 for the Stainless Steel model, and $5,999.99 for the Black Stainless Steel model.

Samsung has also released a video of the fridge aptly titled, Inside the Fridge. Check it out below. මෙන්න මෙයාලා මේක වෙනුවෙන් හදපු කෙටි චිත්‍ර පටිය ...

  1. Click around on the screen to find the Invisible Cow. You'll want to adjust your sound accordingly for clues. Once you find a cow, you move up to other animals. Think of the classic Marco Polo game except with cows and other farm animals, and you'll get the gist of what is going on here.

  2. Click on the Chicken on a Raft site, and you'll get a dancing chicken on a raft with a timer that tells you exactly how long you've been looking at this dancing chicken on a raft. You'll also get treated to an old style pirate shanty singing about the current experience of being with a chicken on a raft.

  3. If you're a fan of the hit animated show Futurama, you'll recognize the character of Hypnotoad, a toad that has mysterious hypnotic powers with psychedelic eyes and a loud, hypnotic call. More about the Hypnotoad: "Both episodes where the Niblonians are involved are excellent. Also, the Hypnotoad while a very minor player, is genius."

  4. Cats are nimble creatures, and you can make them "bounce" all over your screen simply by moving your mouse. Make sure you check out the "Make It Rain" option on the Cat Bounce website.

  5. If you want a puppy to lick your screen without having to clean it up, then this site is for you. A cute pug puppy is pictured licking your computer screen, making a bit of a mess, but thankfully yes - it's all virtual.

  6. There's not much to say about this site; it's a picture of two corn dogs with catchy music and that's it. Literally. Check out the Corn Dog On Corn Dog site.

  7.  Ducks are the Best is an interactive site where the user simply drags their mouse around the screen and creates more and more ducks, accompanied by flashing colors and changing backgrounds. Note: this is probably not a site you want to visit if rapidly changing colors bother you in any way.

  8. If you've ever wanted to slap someone in the face with an eel, here's your chance. The Eel Slap website features an image of a man who you can repeatedly slap in the face with yes, an eel. Great for getting frustration out without harming anyone.

  9. According to several sources, the phrase "salmon of Capistrano" is from the movie Dumb and Dumber, used to reference somewhere popular that many people tend to flock to. This site shows you salmon populated by your mouse moving over the screen.

  10. Do you like Corgis? How about dancing Corgi puppies? You'll want to check out Corgi Party, a site that is both useless and fascinating. This site is utterly mesmerizing. Hundreds of tiny Corgi puppies are dancing on the screen to annoying music, then bigger Corgis come and start dancing across those images. You'll find you've wasted twenty minutes here without even meaning to.
හරි එහෙනම් ඔන්න අපි ගියා ආයෙමත් අලුත් දෙයකින් අපි හමු වෙමු ජය වේවා ..
