WhatsApp Will Stop Running On These Smartphones In 2017

The company has updated its official blog post that recommended upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone version to continue using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp won’t work on these devices after June 30, 2017:

  1. Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  2. Nokia S40
  3. Nokia Symbian S60
  4. BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  5. iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
  6. Windows Phone 7

It looks like WhatsApp is taking these steps as these older platforms hinder the growth of the app by not supporting the newer features.

“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” the company adds in its blog post.

Download SHAREit For Windows 10

There are plenty of ways out to share a file over the internet but depending on the speed of your Internet connection a 100 MB file might take less than a minute to more than an hour to transfer.

Sure, there are apps to transfer files between PC to PC over Wi-Fi but it’s hard to come across an app that supports not just PC and Mac but all major mobile operating systems including iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

SHAREit for Windows

SHAREit is a very popular app among smartphone users. In fact, it’s one of the top downloaded apps from Google Store. As said before, SHAREit is available for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and Windows Phone, meaning one can share files between any of these operating systems with a few clicks or taps.

SHAREit features

To begin with, one can send photos, videos, music, documents and any other file type using SHAREit. And probably the best feature of this free app is that it doesn’t require an internet connection. And if you’re wondering about the speed, you can send GBs of files in a few minutes. More importantly, there is no restriction neither on file size nor number of files.

For those of you wondering, according to the official website of SHAREit, it uses a Wi-Fi technology called SoftAP that creates a personal network and allows other devices to send and receive files. Because of this technology, you can share files faster than sending over the Internet.

With default settings, the Secure mode feature is turned off. However, it’s a wise idea to turn on the Secure mode  feature. When the feature is turned on, you need to create a new password and enter on the device that you want to connect to your device. We advise you turn on this Secure mode feature under Settings as this stops other devices on the same network from connecting to your PC.

In Windows 10/8/7, the files received from other devices are saved in Users\YourUserName\ Downloads\SHAREit folder. We advise you change this default location to a drive other than the system drive, especially if you plan to receive large files to avoid filling up your system drive. You can change the default location under Settings.

Click the down arrow icon in the top-right to access settings, destination folder, and trusted devices. If you add a device to trusted device list, SHAREit will automatically accept files from these devices without prompting you to accept or reject option. We advise you add only your personal devices to trusted list as malicious items can be sent by exploiting this feature.

Lastly, there is a feature called WebShare to share files without actually installing SHAREit app on all devices. In order to share files between two devices, you just need to have installed SHAREit on one device. You need connect to a personal network created by SHAREit and then open the IP address provided by SHAREit app on the device with which you want to share files.

Download SHAREit for Windows 10/8/7

And the good thing is that the newest version of SHAREit is fully compatible with Windows 10. So if you’re on Windows 10 and want to quickly share files between your Windows 10 PC and Mac/iPhone/Android/Windows Phone, give SHAREit app a try.

Visit the following official page to download the latest version of SHAREit.

Future Of Wireless "WIFI" — 802.11ah Wi-Fi Penetrates Walls Easily Using Less Power

IEEE 802.11ah is supposed to solve the problem of signal strength across concrete walls and windows. It solves this problem by operating at a lower frequency than the existing ones. Thus, the devices also need to consume less power in transmitting and receiving signals.

We always complain regarding the slow speed of our internet connection and look for better speed even behind the walls. But, the Wi-Fi alliance thinks that they have come up with a solution to that in the form of 802.11ah.

802.11 ah is another IEEE standard wireless networking protocol which operates in the sub-one GHz (900MHz) band. The main intention of this newer wireless networking protocol is to provide support to Internet of Everything  (IoE) and also provide an extended range of Wi-Fi.

How 802.11 ah solves wall and other obstruction problem?

Today’s Wi-Fi standards like 802.11 a/ b/ g/ etc operate at high frequencies like 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz. Since their frequencies are so high, it becomes harder for them to maintain the signal strength as they pass through the walls.

Currently, 900MHz is an unlicensed spectrum. At a frequency like 900MHz, which is much lower to the above-mentioned frequencies, things like concrete walls, wooden windows, doors etc. would not pose a problem to the wifi access.

According to WiFi Alliance, 802.11ah is supposed to cover double the range of the current standards that is because the signal quality does not downgrade as the signal propagates. Also, devices would not have to burn out their battery in sending and receiving signals.

SkinTrack (2016)

SkinTrack enables continuous touch tracking on the skin. It consists of a ring, which emits a continuous high frequency AC signal, and a sensing wristband with multiple electrodes. SkinTrack measures phase differences to compute a 2D finger touch coordinate. Our approach is compact, non-invasive, low-cost and low-powered. We envision the technology being integrated into future smartwatches, supporting rich touch interactions beyond the confines of the small touchscreen. මෙන්න මේ ගැන තියන ෆුල් PDF එක.

The Next Apple Watch May Support Cell-Network Connectvity

The next Apple Watch might potentially come with cellular connectivity. That means you’ll be able to use it, even if you decide to leave your smartphone at home.

Right now, the Apple Watch connects to your smartphone using bluetooth. It’s the same technology used to pair your smartphone to your car, or to things like wireless headphones and portable speakers. It work great, but it isn’t without its limitations, specifically, distance.

While your Apple Watch can work great with your phone in your pocket, chances are if you’ve strayed too far away you’ve noticed that red alert show up on the top of your watch letting you know it’s not longer connected to your phone. At that point some of the Apple Watch’s functionality still works, but most of it doesn’t.

Sources familiar with matter told The Wall Street Journal this week that Apple plans to add cell-network connectivity to the next version of the wearable, along with a faster processor.

The Apple Watch is currently right at a year old. Originally, Apple had been rumored to be announcing the next generation of the Apple Watch at the event it held in March.

Now, analysts believe that Apple will announce the next generation of the Apple Watch during its annual developers conference, WWDC, in May.

What Is 'Phubbing'? ජිවිතයට වැදගත් යමක් 200 වැනි පෝස්ටුවෙන් ... ALLSRILANKANS.BLOGSPOT.COM

What Is 'Phubbing'? ....

1.  Phubbing Is Phone-Snubbing Another Person

Yes, phubbing is phone-snubbing. This is when a person rudely snubs and ignores you in a social setting in favor of their smartphone. It's a very familiar situation: the person you are talking with gets a text message or an alert on their phone, or perhaps even an incoming call, and your presence is put on hold for several minutes in favor of the smartphone. The episode ends with a mumbled 'sorry about that', followed by festering tension for at least several minutes.

The phubbing is particularly rude if it's not even a text message, where the offender is busy checking Facebook or other social media.

2.  PPhubbing = Phone-Snubbing by Your Spouse

The phubbing term also has a special variation, 'pphubbing' spelled with double P. PPhubbing is when your life partner phone-snubs you. And yes, pphubbing is sometimes more common than regular phubbing, precisely because your life partner believes that they get more social leeway as your spouse.

3.  Origin of the Phubbing and PPhubbing Expressions

The phubbing expression is both a portmanteau (combination of two words) and a neologism (a relatively new word that is starting to become common). It traces to an Australian advertising agency, McCann Melbourne and their 'Stop Phubbing' campaign in 2012.

4.  How Bad Is Phone Snubbing Around the World?

It's bad. People everywhere are still learning how to balance social etiquette against the compulsion to be constantly connected. Handheld communications are still a novelty, and when it comes to tweenagers, the urgency of managing their digital identity is very pressing.

McCann Advertising has some interesting statistics available at their stopphubbing website.

5.  What Can You Do About Phubbing?

Like any uncomfortable communication, you can opt to say nothing to your acquaintance or friend, and just give them a disappointed gaze. Alternatively, you could turn it into a humorous moment, and write a 'phubbing citation' on a restaurant napkin and hand it to them. Or you could send a 'phubbing intervention' email from the nice folks at McCann advertising here. Yes, you can fill out this online form and have it emailed directly to the person who phone-snubbed you.

There are no guarantees that an email will achieve anything. But if you care enough about the person to give them supportive feedback, perhaps try the McCann email approach.

6.  More Text Talk Expressions

Along with 'phubbing', many strange expressions and acronyms have spawned as part of modern connected culture. About.com explains the popular text talk expressions here.

7.  Mental Health Effects of Overusing Your Cell Phone

While mobile devices are extremely useful, they can also pose serious psychological problems. Phubbing is often driven by obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and can feed narcissism and skewed views of oneself. Not to mention: phubbing erodes trust and respect between friends and spouses.

8.  Cell Phones Make You Less Connected?

When you spend time together with your child, your spouse, your friend, or your relative, but you are busy scrolling through your text messages, you are sending a poisonous message: 'my phone deserves more respect than you'.

Because of your personal fear of being disconnected, your phubbing is actually poisoning your personal relationships. You may have returned that text message promptly, but you've also sabotaged your connection with the person sitting beside you.

Addiction to cell phone usage is a growing mental health issue as many of us fall victim to the allure of high-speed communications. We need to be careful: staying digitally connected is good, but not at the cost of becoming socially dysfunctional because our smartphones constantly buzz.

The 8 Best Windows Linux And Other Operating System Clones

According to Wikipedia's usage share of operating systems almost 10% of computers accessing the internet are still running Windows XP and a staggering 53% are running Windows 7.

Windows Vista never really gained momentum and has just under 2% of the market whilst Windows 8 is the second most popular operating system with 18% of the market. Windows 10 was released recently and has already gained 5% of the overall share.

Average users seem to like the simple interface of a panel, menu and icons on the desktop that Windows XP and Windows 7 offer.

Microsoft have somewhat acknowledged this fact by making Windows 10 appear a little bit more like Windows 7. Maybe Windows 8 was a step too far too quickly.

Windows 10 is the future of computing for the foreseeable future and if Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 users don't like it they have the choice to stick with what they have, learn to accept Windows 10 or move to another operating system such as Linux.

There are many Linux distributions out there which are designed to look like Windows and this guide lists the best ones. Why stop there though? Why not list Linux distributions that look like OSX, ChromeOS and Android as well.

1.  Zorin 9 - Windows 7 Clone

Zorin OS is a great replacement for Windows 7 users.

The general look and feel is the same as Windows 7 but it brings the security of Linux and it includes desktop effects and virtual workspaces.

Zorin OS comes with all of the applications that desktop users generally use including a web browser, audio player, email client, messenger app, remote desktop client, video editor, graphics editor and office suite.

If you want to try a different look then you can always go for the Windows XP layout by using the Zorin Look Changer.

2.  Zorin OS Lite

Zorin OS Lite is a 32-bit version of the Zorin Linux distribution built for older computers.

The default layout is like Windows 2000 but you can switch to a Mac style interface if you prefer it.

Zorin OS Lite comes with a suite of applications similar to the main Zorin OS but they are more lightweight.

3.  Q4OS

Q4OS is the perfect desktop replacement for Windows XP users.

It gives you an incredibly close experience to the Windows XP you are used to but is obviously built on top of the more powerful Linux operating system.

The operating system will run on all hardware, old or new and there is full support for printers and other devices.

You can choose to install a common set of software applications such as Google's Chrome browser, the LibreOffice suite and Thunderbird or you can simply install the applications you require one by one.

4.  Elementary OS

If you would like to try a Mac style interface but you don't want to spend all of your hard earned money on a new MacBook then try Elementary OS.

It has an easy to follow website, is incredibly easy to install and a desktop experience that has been very carefully crafted to look simplistic yet elegant.

The software is lightweight in nature and will run on most hardware.

5.  MacPUP

MacPUP has been built using Puppy Linux as a base distribution.

From a user's point of view however all you need to know is that the look and feel has been crafted so that you get a very similar interface to that of a MacBook.

It isn't quite as clean as Elementary OS but it will work on much older hardware and as it is built on Puppy Linux you can carry it around on a USB drive and boot it as required.

6.  Peppermint OS

If you are looking for a Linux distribution to turn your laptop into a Chromebook then Peppermint OS is quite close.

It will take some customising to make it look exactly like ChromeOS but the ICE application lets you add web applications to your computer as if they are standard desktop applications.

7.  Chromixium

If you really want your laptop to function like a Chromebook then consider installing Chromixium.

The look and feel is almost a perfect copy of ChromeOS and it has benefits over the Chromebook in that you can install standard desktop applications as well as web applications.

8.  Android x86

If you are looking for an Android clone to run on your laptop then install Android x86 on your computer.

This isn't so much a clone as a port of the full Android operating system.

There are limitations to running Android on your desktop unless you have a touch screen. It has been designed to work on a tablet or phone.

Update Facebook’s iOS App Now To Get More Battery Life From Your iPhone f

Facebook’s official app is among the most used apps on any mobile platform today, and it is no surprise that it contributes to a major portion of the on-screen time on our phones and tablets. While Facebook app using some of the battery is understandable given the complexity of the social network and the fact it’s used a lot, but a major battery drain is unacceptable for obvious reasons. This has been the case for over a week for most iOS users, be it on iPhone or on iPad, and such has been the criticism that after initially acknowledging the issue last week, Facebook has now released an app update to fix the problem.

Those experiencing this unusual battery drain could tell, thanks to the battery analytics in iOS 9, that the app was running in the background for quite a few hours, in some cases almost double the on-screen time of the app. All of this was transpiring despite users having turned off the Background App Refresh in iOS for Facebook.

When the roars and cries started coming in, independent researchers started digging up on any potential clues that could explain why the most downloaded app on the iOS App Store was behaving in such erratic manner. One possible explanation was the use of silent audio in the background, and as it turned out, that hypothesis was right on the mark.

According to Ari Grant, an Engineering Manager at Facebook:

The second issue is with how we manage audio sessions. If you leave the Facebook app after watching a video, the audio session sometimes stays open as if the app was playing audio silently. This is similar to when you close a music app and want to keep listening to the music while you do other things, except in this case it was unintentional and nothing kept playing.

With videos being played automatically as you browse through your Facebook News Feed, there were bound to be a host of users becoming a victim to the bug as pointed out by Grant. Another issue pointed out by Grant had something to do with a “CPU spin” code.

The first issue we found was a “CPU spin” in our network code. A CPU spin is like a child in a car asking, “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?” with the question not resulting in any progress to reaching the destination. This repeated processing causes our app to use more battery than intended.

The good news now is that you don’t have to follow any tips or tricks to fix the issue. Facebook has released version 42.0 of its iOS app, and it should be showing up as pending update in the App Store. Go update it now!
