This post explains how to find serial number for various hardware devices – RAM, Hard disk, Motherboard, CD Rom on a computer. We can use WMIC command to find this information.  These commands can be executed from Windows command prompt.

එහෙනම් මුලින්ම ඔයාලා රන් බොක්ස් WIN+R එකට ගිහින් CMD කියලා ගහලා DOS (Command Comport) වලට යන්න.

Get serial number of RAM chips.
wmic memorychip get serialnumber

This command lists serial number for each RAM module installed on the computer. Example below.

Example:
c:\>wmic memorychip get serialnumber
SerialNumber
91AB9A10
9EBD9A10

Get serial number for hard disks
wmic diskdrive get serialnumber

Example:
c:\>wmic diskdrive get serialnumber
SerialNumber
FR3AG13032430BC13S

Get serial number for mother boards
wmic baseboard get serialnumber

Get Serial number for cdrom drive
wmic cdrom where drive='d:' get SerialNumber

Replace ‘d:’ with the drive letter for the cdrom on your computer. You get error ‘No Instance(s) available’ if you don’t have CDROM drive on your computer.

Example:
c:\>wmic cdrom  get SerialNumber
No Instance(s) Available.

Quirky Things You Didn’t Know The Linux Terminal Could Do - Terminal

1) Running infinite loop in terminal:
no installation required, just type:
Yes <whatever> and press enter:

2) Running a steam locomotive in the terminal:
first install it using
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sl
then type sl and press enter

3) We begin with one of the most eye-catching trick of the list, the asciiviewer. With this tool, you can convert and generate an image out of pure text.
For Installation type: sudo apt-get install aview
To Run Command type:  asciiview name_of_file -driver curses

4) Aafire
Ideally, I wouldn’t recommend you to sit back and watch as your screen burns but how about watching fire inside your Linux Terminal? Seems absurd? Well, wait till you use the aafire command.
For Installation type: sudo apt-get install libaa-bin
To Run Command Type: aafire

5) bb
Put on your headphones and brace yourselves for an entirely text based animation that I am sure will leave you awestruck with your jaws hanging.
For Installation type: sudo apt-get install bb
To Run Command type: bb

6) Cal
Use this command to view the calendar inside the Linux terminal. Check out the man page of the cal command (by using the command: man cal) to know about the other options available to customize the output of the command.
To Run Command Type: cal

7) Cmatrix
Remember the ground-breaking sci-fi movie ‘The Matrix’? Ever wished to waltz through the Matrix itself? Well, if so, then the cmatrix is definitely ‘The One’ you are looking for:
For Installation Type:  sudo apt-get install cmatrix
To Run Command Type: cmatrix

8) Cowsay
Get an ASCII cow in the terminal that says whatever you want it to say.
For Installation Type: sudo apt-get install cowsay
To Run Type: cowsay “Message_That_You_Wish”

9) The cowsay command can be implemented in the following ways as well:

The cowsay command can also be used with following by just replacing the -f parameter with any of the following:

10) Xcowsay
Inspired by the original cowsay, the xcowsay does the same things as cowsay but in a graphical manner.
For Installation Type: sudo apt-get install xcowsay
To Run Type: xcowsay “Desired_Text”

Basic Linux Commands

we find ourselves pondering over the Basic Linux Commands which one must be aware of, as a beginner!

ls
The ls command is used to list the contents of the directory (just in case you are getting confused: a directory can be considered as being analogous to a folder of Windows). You will be using the ls command to gain information about the files and directories.

As I mentioned above, we can add certain options to a Linux command in order to make it do a little bit of extra work. Here’s is how it happens:

cd [dir]
The ‘cd‘ command is used to change the current directory i.e we use this command to switch over to some other directory whose contents we might want to view or perform particular operations upon. It is basically used for navigation purposes. Using this command changes the current directory to ‘dir’. If you simply use the cd command without specifying the directory, it changes the current directory to the home directory.

pwd
The pwd command is used to display the name of the current working directory. In case you are unaware about it, use the pwd command to determine the directory that you are currently placed in.

cat [file]
The cat command concatenates and display files. This command is used to display the contents of the file mentioned along with the command.

echo [argument]
The echo command is one of the most commonly used Linux commands and is used to display the argument mentioned in the command on the screen. It basically displays a line of text/string on standard output or a file.

clear
Sometimes while using the Terminal, there is a tendency for things to get cluttered. There could be too much information on the screen or you might, no longer require the data being displayed. In such cases,we use the clear command to (no prizes for guessing) clear the screen and get rid of the contents of the screen.

exit
As the name suggests, the exit command is used to exit the shell or your current session.

man command
One of the Linux commands that would come to your rescue when things get sticky is the man command. The man command displays the online manual for the ‘command’ specified along with the word man. It is sort of like the help menu. You can get information about any of the command, its function, the options associated with it etc. By using the man command:

This documentation provided for any Linux command by the man command is called ‘man pages’.

Here are some more Linux commands that you should know:

rm: This command removes files and directories.

cp: This command copies files and directories.

mv: This command moves files and folders between directories.

mkdir: This command makes a new folder in your working directory.

cal: This command shows calendar on you Terminal.

nano: This command is a command line text editor.

sudo: This command gives you the super user privileges.

If you are willing to learn more about Linux command line tools related to various system processes, hardware, users, network etc. here’s a useful cheatsheet.

There are hundreds of Linux commands out there. But, I would advise you to first try out these commands on your own system and gather a basic idea of how they work. You could also refer to the man pages of each command in order to gain more knowledge about them. We shall keep discussing these commands in greater detail in upcoming articles.

Google’s Android Instant Apps — Use Them In Your Browser Without Installing

Android Instant Apps are being called the next big thing that can revolutionize mobile experience. To be launched by the end of this year, one will be able to launch the Instant Apps with just a click on a URL, use the specific portion of that app, and forget about it. This functionality will save space and time, making our app experience as seamless as browsing a web page.

At its I/O developer conference, Google announced many new products and services. The company even surprised everybody by launching a website to submit suggestions for the name of next version of Android i.e. Android N.

From the same platform, Google showed off a new approach to native Android apps that allows you to use apps without installing them on your Android device. This allows developers to take advantage of the modules of applications without actually using them.

What are Android Instant Apps?
Android Instant Apps are being developed to blur the lines between a mobile app and a web app. This feature will be rolled out slowly to the users, but Google wants you to rethink the concept of mobile apps.

While downloading an application takes some time and storage space, Instant Articles run simply by clicking on a URL.

Google says that the idea behind Instant Apps is to make the app experience as simple as surfing a website. In future, you’ll visit an app via a web page, perform the desired action, and never think about it again.

To enable this feature, developers need to break their apps into smaller modules that can start within few seconds. Instead of rewriting the app from scratch, they can use the existing source code and implement the Instant App support within a day, according to Google.

In its I/O demo, the Google presenter showed different apps like Buzzfeed and B&H with Instant App ability and completed the tasks in seconds without installing any app.

In the demo, Google used a device running Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s expected that Google will allow the Instant Apps to run on any device running Android Jellybean or newer.

The tech giant is expected to roll out the Instant Apps by the end of 2016.

Download SHAREit For Windows 10

There are plenty of ways out to share a file over the internet but depending on the speed of your Internet connection a 100 MB file might take less than a minute to more than an hour to transfer.

Sure, there are apps to transfer files between PC to PC over Wi-Fi but it’s hard to come across an app that supports not just PC and Mac but all major mobile operating systems including iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

SHAREit for Windows

SHAREit is a very popular app among smartphone users. In fact, it’s one of the top downloaded apps from Google Store. As said before, SHAREit is available for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and Windows Phone, meaning one can share files between any of these operating systems with a few clicks or taps.

SHAREit features

To begin with, one can send photos, videos, music, documents and any other file type using SHAREit. And probably the best feature of this free app is that it doesn’t require an internet connection. And if you’re wondering about the speed, you can send GBs of files in a few minutes. More importantly, there is no restriction neither on file size nor number of files.

For those of you wondering, according to the official website of SHAREit, it uses a Wi-Fi technology called SoftAP that creates a personal network and allows other devices to send and receive files. Because of this technology, you can share files faster than sending over the Internet.

With default settings, the Secure mode feature is turned off. However, it’s a wise idea to turn on the Secure mode  feature. When the feature is turned on, you need to create a new password and enter on the device that you want to connect to your device. We advise you turn on this Secure mode feature under Settings as this stops other devices on the same network from connecting to your PC.

In Windows 10/8/7, the files received from other devices are saved in Users\YourUserName\ Downloads\SHAREit folder. We advise you change this default location to a drive other than the system drive, especially if you plan to receive large files to avoid filling up your system drive. You can change the default location under Settings.

Click the down arrow icon in the top-right to access settings, destination folder, and trusted devices. If you add a device to trusted device list, SHAREit will automatically accept files from these devices without prompting you to accept or reject option. We advise you add only your personal devices to trusted list as malicious items can be sent by exploiting this feature.

Lastly, there is a feature called WebShare to share files without actually installing SHAREit app on all devices. In order to share files between two devices, you just need to have installed SHAREit on one device. You need connect to a personal network created by SHAREit and then open the IP address provided by SHAREit app on the device with which you want to share files.

Download SHAREit for Windows 10/8/7

And the good thing is that the newest version of SHAREit is fully compatible with Windows 10. So if you’re on Windows 10 and want to quickly share files between your Windows 10 PC and Mac/iPhone/Android/Windows Phone, give SHAREit app a try.

Visit the following official page to download the latest version of SHAREit.

Future Of Wireless "WIFI" — 802.11ah Wi-Fi Penetrates Walls Easily Using Less Power

IEEE 802.11ah is supposed to solve the problem of signal strength across concrete walls and windows. It solves this problem by operating at a lower frequency than the existing ones. Thus, the devices also need to consume less power in transmitting and receiving signals.

We always complain regarding the slow speed of our internet connection and look for better speed even behind the walls. But, the Wi-Fi alliance thinks that they have come up with a solution to that in the form of 802.11ah.

802.11 ah is another IEEE standard wireless networking protocol which operates in the sub-one GHz (900MHz) band. The main intention of this newer wireless networking protocol is to provide support to Internet of Everything  (IoE) and also provide an extended range of Wi-Fi.

How 802.11 ah solves wall and other obstruction problem?

Today’s Wi-Fi standards like 802.11 a/ b/ g/ etc operate at high frequencies like 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz. Since their frequencies are so high, it becomes harder for them to maintain the signal strength as they pass through the walls.

Currently, 900MHz is an unlicensed spectrum. At a frequency like 900MHz, which is much lower to the above-mentioned frequencies, things like concrete walls, wooden windows, doors etc. would not pose a problem to the wifi access.

According to WiFi Alliance, 802.11ah is supposed to cover double the range of the current standards that is because the signal quality does not downgrade as the signal propagates. Also, devices would not have to burn out their battery in sending and receiving signals.

What Is 'Phubbing'? ජිවිතයට වැදගත් යමක් 200 වැනි පෝස්ටුවෙන් ... ALLSRILANKANS.BLOGSPOT.COM

What Is 'Phubbing'? ....

1.  Phubbing Is Phone-Snubbing Another Person

Yes, phubbing is phone-snubbing. This is when a person rudely snubs and ignores you in a social setting in favor of their smartphone. It's a very familiar situation: the person you are talking with gets a text message or an alert on their phone, or perhaps even an incoming call, and your presence is put on hold for several minutes in favor of the smartphone. The episode ends with a mumbled 'sorry about that', followed by festering tension for at least several minutes.

The phubbing is particularly rude if it's not even a text message, where the offender is busy checking Facebook or other social media.

2.  PPhubbing = Phone-Snubbing by Your Spouse

The phubbing term also has a special variation, 'pphubbing' spelled with double P. PPhubbing is when your life partner phone-snubs you. And yes, pphubbing is sometimes more common than regular phubbing, precisely because your life partner believes that they get more social leeway as your spouse.

3.  Origin of the Phubbing and PPhubbing Expressions

The phubbing expression is both a portmanteau (combination of two words) and a neologism (a relatively new word that is starting to become common). It traces to an Australian advertising agency, McCann Melbourne and their 'Stop Phubbing' campaign in 2012.

4.  How Bad Is Phone Snubbing Around the World?

It's bad. People everywhere are still learning how to balance social etiquette against the compulsion to be constantly connected. Handheld communications are still a novelty, and when it comes to tweenagers, the urgency of managing their digital identity is very pressing.

McCann Advertising has some interesting statistics available at their stopphubbing website.

5.  What Can You Do About Phubbing?

Like any uncomfortable communication, you can opt to say nothing to your acquaintance or friend, and just give them a disappointed gaze. Alternatively, you could turn it into a humorous moment, and write a 'phubbing citation' on a restaurant napkin and hand it to them. Or you could send a 'phubbing intervention' email from the nice folks at McCann advertising here. Yes, you can fill out this online form and have it emailed directly to the person who phone-snubbed you.

There are no guarantees that an email will achieve anything. But if you care enough about the person to give them supportive feedback, perhaps try the McCann email approach.

6.  More Text Talk Expressions

Along with 'phubbing', many strange expressions and acronyms have spawned as part of modern connected culture. About.com explains the popular text talk expressions here.

7.  Mental Health Effects of Overusing Your Cell Phone

While mobile devices are extremely useful, they can also pose serious psychological problems. Phubbing is often driven by obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and can feed narcissism and skewed views of oneself. Not to mention: phubbing erodes trust and respect between friends and spouses.

8.  Cell Phones Make You Less Connected?

When you spend time together with your child, your spouse, your friend, or your relative, but you are busy scrolling through your text messages, you are sending a poisonous message: 'my phone deserves more respect than you'.

Because of your personal fear of being disconnected, your phubbing is actually poisoning your personal relationships. You may have returned that text message promptly, but you've also sabotaged your connection with the person sitting beside you.

Addiction to cell phone usage is a growing mental health issue as many of us fall victim to the allure of high-speed communications. We need to be careful: staying digitally connected is good, but not at the cost of becoming socially dysfunctional because our smartphones constantly buzz.
